Abstract

Foreshortening or apical shortening is one of the most frequent errors in daily echocardiography practice. The selection of a study plane in apical planes that does not actually pass through the strict ventricular apex results in falsely shortened planes that lead to errors in the assessment of ventricular size and function and make it impossible to assess the alterations affecting the true apex. In this brief article we review the tricks that should be known to avoid it.
