Mechanical complication of acute myocardial infarction: contained cardiac rupture. Case report

contained cardiac rupture, mechanical complication of acute myocardial infarctionAbstract
We present the case of a 74-year-old man who came to the emergency department with a history of chest pain and recurrent syncope. The evaluation revealed an acute myocardial infarction complicated by a contained rupture. Although the diagnosis and indication for urgent surgery were made very quickly, the patient suffered cardiopulmonary arrest before the procedure. This case demonstrates the fundamental role of echocardiography as an initial tool in detecting mechanical complications of post-infarction and the usefulness of CT in confirming the diagnosis. Early diagnosis of this type of complication is key to improving patient prognosis.
