Abstract

Transthoracic echocardiography is the initial diagnostic method in the study of congenital heart disease, including truncal malformations. The diagnostic approach in the adult patient in relation to the sequence of image acquisition (parasternal views) differs from that in the pediatric patient, where the initial approach is the subcostal image which provides a general idea of the patient’s diagnosis. The present article aims to point out the findings in these approaches that allow to suspect the diagnosis of the different truncal malformations and the anatomical data useful in the differential diagnosis.
