Echocardiographic evaluation of diastolic function and left ventricular filling pressure is a fundamental aspect in patients which present dyspnea or symptoms of heart failure. The use of all recommended parameters is extensive, and the new guidelines are based on a new diagnostic algorithm. In this article, we have specified the measurements that must always be performed and the strategy of its use, which is applicable to most of the pathologies. It is also commented the application of other parameters less frequently used but which are useful in specific pathologies.
