The following article is a synthesis of echocardiographic evaluation in patients who are candidates for percutaneous mitral valve repair. Mitral regurgitation is the second most common valve disease in the world and contributes significantly to the development of heart failure, so it is essential to perform an adequate and timely treatment. Echocardiography is the main tool for assessing the severity and etiology of this entity; in addition, it currently plays a fundamental role in the selection of patients in whom surgical treatment is prohibitive or high-risk for percutaneous mitral valve repair. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for the clinical cardiologist, echocardiographist and interventional cardiologist to know the appropriate method for the selection of these patients.
