Right-sided endocarditis and restrictive ventricular septal defect, an echocardiographic challenge: case report.

Right-sided infective endocarditis (IE) accounts for 5–10% of all IE cases and is frequently associated with congenital heart disease. Although restrictive ventricular septal defects (VSDs) with normal pulmonary arterial pressure generally do not require intervention, they carry a risk of developing IE or other complications over time. We present the case of a 38-year-old man with a history of unrepaired restrictive VSD who developed IE due to Streptococcus mitis following a dental procedure. The patient was successfully treated with long-term antibiotic therapy, without requiring surgical intervention.
