Abstract

Left atrial dissection is a very unusual surgical complication after a valve surgery, offering a challenging diagnostic in our clinical practice routine. The clinical presentation could be highly variable, being the transesophageal echocardiogram the image test tool chosen for this diagnosis. Its treatment was initially conservative, but nowadays most require surgical resolution. We present the case of a 44-year-old man with a very unusual clinical presentation and etiology of this complication, in which the transesophageal echocardiogram was the diagnostic key.
