Abstract

Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) occurs in up to a third of patients at rest and is provokable in another third (1). This phenomenon occurs due to septal hypertrophy per se and the systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the mitral valve, in most cases due to the anterior leaflet, however, in a small proportion it is the posterior leaflet that is responsible (2) (3).
