Transthoracic echocardiography is very useful in the management of pericardial effusion. It is the technique of choice in cardiac imaging for the diagnosis, quantification and monitoring pericardial effusion. 2015 guidelines reorder those of 2004, proposing in an essential way multimodality imaging for pericardial diseases.
