Abstract

We present a case of constrictive pericarditis with 2 years of history prior to diagnosis. The main diagnostic study is the transthoracic echocardiogram with the protocol for constrictive pericarditis proposed by the Mayo Clinic. Cardiac magnetic resonance and cardiac tomography are diagnostic options in complex cases and help to
characterize the anatomy of the pericardium. Cardiac catheterization helps to differentiate between constrictive
pericarditis vs restrictive cardiomyopathy. Surgical pericardiectomy is the only definitive treatment, most patients experience a substantial improvement in functional class and cardiac filling pressures.
