Measurement of the left atrium in transthoracic echocardiography

Increasing in the size of the left atrium is associated with different cardiovascular diseases, atrial flutter incidence, cerebral ischemic events, and an increase in the risk of death. Information that echography brings allows us to an exact quantification of auricular size and document variations in functions, which are previous to the appearance of auricular remodeling. However, the evaluation of its measurement and function requires a very careful systematic in image acquisition, as they may exist several sources of errors in the acquisition.
