Abstract

Cardiovascular imaging methods have meant a major advance in the diagnosis, evaluation and monitoring of patients with infectious endocarditis. Both transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography are complementary methods in the evaluation of patients with suspected endocarditis. Computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging have greater accuracy in the diagnosis of peri-annulus infection and extra-cardiac complications. The fusion of positron emission tomography with computed tomography (PET/CT) or SPECT imaging with computed tomography (SPECT/CT) with radiolabeled leukocytes, provide a functional imaging of inflammation present in these patients.
