Physical exercise is the recommended method in clinical guidelines to be used as a first alternative, as it is the most physiological and safer of all stress methods. Among exercise modalities, treadmill exercise is one of the ones that leads to maximal oxygen (O2) consumption. Therefore, peak treadmill exercise imaging acquisition is well-fitted for ischemia detection, as it is done near maximal achieved O2 consumption (Phase 1). On the other hand, post-exercise imaging is tailored to examine diastolic function by the E/e´ ratio, as heart rate goes decreasing (Phase 2).
