Ventricular septal defects are a diagnostic challenge, as they require precise definition of anatomical details and their hemodynamic consequences. In this article we will review how the Gerbode-type defect should be evaluated, that is, the communication of the left ventricle with the right atrium due to a defect of the atrioventricular septum.
