In the context of the pandemic due to the new coronavirus COVID-19, the echocardiogram, due to its characteristics, versatility and cost effectiveness, is a basic tool for cardiovascular monitoring of critically ill patients. However, close contact with the patient that involves the performance of the echocardiogram may be associated with risk of infection. For this reason, several scientific societies have published prevention strategies to avoid coronavirus infection in healthcare personnel during the performance of these cardiac imaging tests. These recommendations highlight the use of the "focused study" as a strategy to limit the exposure time of health personnel and the use of specific personal protective equipment that provides adequate protection during the studies.
